 Amsterdam to Bruges
 

Travelling by barge and bicycle is a great way to explore the countryside of Holland and Belgium. We stay on a Dutch barge on the canals and each day have a guided cycling tour on quiet roads and cycle paths with mostly flat terrain.

Included:  Seven nights accommodation in a  2 berth cabin with shower/toilet, All meals, Bicycle hire, Guide, Information Pack (twin bedded cabins available at a surcharge), transfer from Bruges back to Amsterdam.

Meeting point: The tour starts in Amsterdam and ends in Bruges (alternate weeks it starts in Bruges and ends in Amsterdam).

ITINERARY:
Day 1: Arrival in Amsterdam
Meet your guide and then sail on the barge from Amsterdam to the village of Oude Wetering.

Day 2: Oude Wetering to Gouda      22 miles
In April and May you can visit the Keukenhof flower gardens and stroll around the colourful tulip and daffodil displays. You will then sail on to the small town of Gouda, known throughout the world for its cheese.

Day 3: Gouda to Willemstad     28 miles
Cycle to Kinderdijk, famous for its collection of traditional Dutch windmills. Continue to Dordrecht, one of the oldest towns in Holland that inspired 17th century painters such as Cuyp and van Goyen. We continue to the beautifully maintained fortress town of Willemstad.

Day 4: Willemstad to Antwerp
Sail through the beautiful waterways of Zeeland to the lively city of Antwerp in Belgium, once home to the baroque painter Rubens. On arrival you’ll have plenty of time to explore this interesting and cultured port.

Day 5: Antwerp to Dendermonde  19 miles
Today the barge sails out of Antwerp to the provincial town of Dendermonde. Your cycle ride is through attractive countryside beside the Schelde River.

Day 6: Dendermonde to Ghent    22 miles
Enjoy a leisurely ride through the flat Flemish countryside. This evening take time to look around the old town of Ghent, which has more listed buildings than the rest of Belgium put together.

Day 7: Ghent to Bruges    16 miles
Complete your journey by train and bike to the magnificent city of Bruges. Explore the beautiful buildings and well-preserved medieval architecture as you walk around this city, sampling the culinary delights of Belgium such as waffles, beer and mussels.

Day 8: End of tour after breakfast
Return by bus to Amsterdam airport.
