Choosing a Cycling Holiday:
It is essential when booking a cycling holiday to make sure that you
will feel comfortable at the level of cycling
you have chosen
so you can fully enjoy the holiday. The following gradings
apply:
Very Easy - For occasional cyclists
Easy - Normal good physical condition
required and preparation by cycling regularly.
Easy to Moderate - Participants should be accustomed to cycling on
gentle hills.
Moderate -
Participants should have cycling experience in all
terrain including hills.
Medium to Difficult - Participants should have cycling experience,
be in very good physical condition and
accustomed to cycling on hills.
Equipment: Helmets are
available to rent but we recommend that you take your own helmet if
possible.
Helmets are not mandatory in Europe but we strongly
recommend that you wear one. Bicycles are equipped
with locks and panniers. Gel seats are
available (with advance notice). We suggest you bring cycling
gloves,
rain gear and perhaps padded cycling shorts.
Equipment breakdown:
In the event of a mechanical breakdown which you are unable to
repair yourself and if a guide is not present
at the time, you should phone the contact number provided at the
start of the holiday by
the local tour operator
All participants,
whether or an escorted or independent tour, should be able to mend a
puncture.
Cell Phones: We strongly recommend that all participants
carry a cell-phone while cycling both on independent
or escorted
tours. International cell phones can be purchased from Rogers
Wireless or rented from various rental services.
They can also be purchased or rented in foreign countries.
If you choose not to carry a cell-phone, you
should familiarize yourself with local pay-phones, carry appropriate
change and know how to make a call.
Medical Insurance: Every participant should be covered by
out-of-country medical insurance. Participants
should carry
information with them on their insurance coverage.
Trip Cancellation Insurance: This is optional but we
recommend that you purchase it. Cost varies according
to age. Trip Cancellation Insurance is valid for medical reasons.
Insurance company is RBC Insurance (Royal
Bank). Details on the
insurance can be seen on RBC's website
www.rbcinsurance.com
Luggage: We ask that participants keep their luggage to a
minimum. When luggage is being transported
from hotel to hotel there
is a certain amount of wear and tear – baggage insurance is
recommended. Luggage
should be clearly labeled.
Cancellation of tours: When booking a group holiday we recommend that you do not purchase
air tickets until the trip has enough
participants booked to ensure
that it will go. If a tour is cancelled due to low bookings we will
refund any monies paid in advance for the tour. We will not
reimburse for other travel expenses.
Guided Tours: Although these tours are escorted, a guide
cannot be with all participants at all times to warn
them of
hazards. Cyclists seldom ride as a group since some travel faster
than others. The guide briefs
participants in the morning and gives directions. He or she may
cycle part of the daily route. He or she will
"sweep" the route to look for stragglers and this may be done by
van.
Liability:
Please note that Teachers’ Travel Service Ltd. and their
associated tour operators will not accept responsibility
for any
accident, illness, loss or damage to tour participants or their
personal property. In any cycling or active
holiday there is a
minimum inherent risk and any participant must accept this risk as
his own. The tour guides
and local tour operators will do their best
to make each holiday as safe and comfortable as possible but
there
are some things which are beyond their control. Every participant
should make himself aware of the local
rules of the road and should obey
these rules at all times. Although these tours are escorted, a guide
cannot
be with all participants at all times to warn them of
hazards.
