Itinerary
Day One: Arrive in Odense (reached by train from Copenhagen and
ferry). Odense was the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. It is a
university town dating back to pre-Viking times with half-timbered houses
and cobble-stoned streets.
Day Two: Head south to visit the medieval castle of Egeskov, built on
thousands of oak trunks in the middle of a lake. Continue to Svendborg,
one of the most attractive towns in Denmark. Two nights are spent in
Troense, on the island of Tasinge, a picturesque village with many
thatched cottages. (38 miles)
Day Three: Cycle around the island with its story-book villages including
a visit to the harbour town of Svendborg.
Day Four: The route continues through the fabled woods Noreskoven via the
small island Sio to Langeland. A trip around the island takes you on
narrow lanes to Tranekaer to visit the castle and along the beach at
Spodsbjerg, Rudkobing. This cozy town with picturesque houses and
beautiful town squares is worth a visit before catching the ferry to the
next island of Aero. The route to Aeroskobing consists of tracks and paths
and is one of the most beautiful sections of the tour. This romantic town
was featured in one of Hans Christian Andersen's stories. Stay two
nights (24 miles)
Day Five: Explore the beautiful town or perhaps a swim on nearby beaches.
Day Six: Depart from Aeroskobing over the
hills to Soby. By ferry to Faaborg on Funen Island through Funen's "Alps"
making one of the most attractive areas of Denmark. (27 miles)
Day Seven: Today's route back to Odense goes through typical glacial
landscape dominated by lakes, hills and valleys. Stop at an open-air
museum which displays centuries of peasant life. (30 miles) Overnight in
Odense.
Day Eight: End of tour
