Kerry, Ireland - Independent Cycling Tour
Itinerary
The cycling trip takes us
through some of Ireland's most outstanding scenery around the Inveragh
Peninsula. It is enhanced by both folklore and local traditions -
Irish music, pubs and history.
Day One: Arrive in Killarney and overnight.
Day Two: Killarney to Glenbeigh - ride through the Beaufort
Valley and into the isolated Valley of Glencar. Continue through the beautiful district of Caragh Lake and
Glencar to the
seaside resort of Glenbeigh which boasts miles of golden sands and
rolling waves. Overnight at Glenbeigh. 49 km.
Day Three:
The next stage is along the shores of Dingle Bay and
the island-studded Atlantic. Pass through the market town of Caherciveen
where one can stop to see evidence of early Christian settlements and also
the ring fort of Cathair Gael and Leacanabuile. In the afternoon you have
the optional longer cycle route of Valentia Island enroute
to the seaside village lf Waterville. 46 km (option
of 67)
Day Four: This is a rest day if you feel like not cycling or you can
cycle the Skelligs ring or you can take a boat trip to the
Skelligs. Overnight at Waterville.
Day Five: Continue through the Coomakista Pass with
magnificent views over Kenmare and the Atlantic. You might
want to stop for lunch at Derrynane House, which was the
home of Daniel
O'Connell, the Irish liberator, or continue to the small village of
Caherdaniel. After lunch cycle along the coast to the
beautiful village of Sneem. Overnight in Sneem. 48
km.
Day Six: Beyond Sneem cycle inland off the main road. The days
highlights are Molls Gap and the Lakes of Killarney. Stop
at Ladies View, Torc Waterfall and Muchross House. There
is an optional extension to the town of Kenmare before
returning to Killarney. 45 km (option of 61 km).
Day Seven: Cycle through the dramatic Gap of
Dunloe and into the remote Black Valley and return to Killarney either by
cycling or by boat. Killarney is a fun resort town and worth spending a few extra days.

or Kerry Airport.
