in the footsteps of the poet, philosopher and avid walker, Samuel Taylor
Coleridge on this journey through the Somerset hills. You’ll visit the
beautiful landscape that inspired his most famous poems, together with
charming villages and wide-ranging views 48 miles. 8-12 miles and up to 1,400ft of ascent in a day. Itinerary: GUIDED TRAIL WALK Day 1: arrival day. Day 2: starting from Coleridge’s cottage in Nether Stowey, cross the rolling Quantock Hills to Bicknoller. Day 3: walk past wooded valleys and attractive villages to Roadwater. Day 4: walk atop the Brendon Hills to Whedden Cross, with views right across north Somerset. Day 5: free day to explore the island or walk independently. Day 6: soak up the views from Dunkery Beacon before descending through the charming wooded valley of Horner Water to Holnicote House. Day 7: walk the splendid coastal path to Lynmouth, passing the hamlet of Culbone where Coleridge was famously interrupted whilst writing his epic poem Kubla Khan. Day 8: departure day. You’ll stay at HF Holidays’ own Country House at Selworthy, with transport to and from the route provided each day. All meals included. |
