For a taste of all that is quintessentially English, the Cotswold Way is a
footpath that offers it all: historic castles, ancient abbeys, stately
homes all set amidst glorious countryside. Follow this famous trail
as it snake its way along the western escarpment of the Cotswolds. We stay
in one hotel for the week in the village of Bourton-on-the-Water and
each day go by private coach to start and end the walk. Moderate difficulty - 72 miles with 11 to 13 miles and up to 1,550ft of ascent in a day. Itinerary: GUIDED TRAIL WALK Day 1: arrival day. Day 2: starting from Chipping Campden, follow the trail south to picturesque Broadway village and Stanway. Day 3: visit Hailes Abbey and the market town of Winchcombe on the way to Cleeve Common. Day 4: continue along the escarpment of Cleeve Hill to the Devil’s Chimney. Day 5: walk through ancient woodland to the picture-postcard village of Painswick. Day 6: enjoy far-reaching views across the Severn Estuary as we follow the edge of the Cotswolds to Coaley Peak. Day 7: cross rolling Gloucestershire countryside to complete the trail at Wotton-under-Edge. Day 8: departure day. THE HOTEL WHERE WE STAY: HARRINGTON HOUSE. Dating from the Tudor period, Harrington House mirrors the mellow architectural style of the Cotswolds. Tucked away in a quiet location, it is 100 yards from the charming centre of Bourton-on-the-Water, one of the Cotswolds showpiece villages. A cosy lounge, croquet lawn and walled garden can all be enjoyed in this peaceful atmosphere. All meals are included. |
