GUIDED TRAIL HOLIDAYS

Highlights of Arran's Coast
2012
7 nights

This guided trail holiday visits famous locations around the Isle of Arran. An abundance of archaeology, history and wildlife, together with outstanding views of the sea, mountains and cliffs along the way, make this an unforgettable visit. We stay in one hotel for the week near the village of Lamlash and each day go by private coach to start and end the walk.

Itinerary: GUIDED TRAIL WALK
44 miles. 8-10 miles and up to 2,000ft of ascent in a day.
Day 1     Arrival day.
Day 2
Starting on the west coast at Machrie we head south to the atmospheric standing stones on Machrie Moor. A short walk takes us to the edge of the forest leading down to the shore and King’s Cave. The walk continues along the shore around the spectacular Drumadoon cliffs to the village of Blackwaterfoot.
Day 3
From the coast just north of Dippen Head on the southeast of the island we go north to Whiting Bay. To reach the Glenashdale Falls we head up into the forest for a short time, taking an open forest track to Giants Graves, with great views over to Holy Island and the mainland, before returning to the coast at Ashdale Bridge. After walking through the picturesque village of Whiting Bay we end at Kingscross Point.
Day 4
From the HF Holidays’ Country House at Lamlash we head east along the shore to Clauchlands Point, then north, uphill and inland, to Brodick, Arran’s main village and ferry terminal.
Day 5   Free day to explore independently.
Day 6   We start at Brodick, walking along the shoreline edge by the golf course to the castle grounds, then up onto Goatfell’s east shoulder (2,000ft), which should afford great views east, before dropping down into Corrie Lan and along the shore into Corrie village.
Day 7
The final day takes in the whole north section of the island from Sannox, going past Laggan Cottage and Cock of Arran before a shoreline rocky scramble on the very north of the island. We go round the headland to finish the week at what is regarded as the loveliest of Arran’s villages – Lochranza.
Day 8
Departure day.

THE HOTEL WHERE WE STAY:  ALTACHORVIE is a beautifully located Scottish Country House on Arran's  beautiful coast. From this peaceful spot there are excellent views across Lamlash Bay to Holy Isle and the whole of Arran is within easy reach.  There are 36 en-suite bedrooms, some in the main building and others in chalets on the grounds.  All meals are included.
