guided walking trail holiday on the South Downs over undulating
countryside and rolling chalk downland, much of it within the Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty of the South Downs and passing historic sites
and pretty villages. Starting at the city of Winchester, we follow this
National Trail to the heights of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head with
its commanding position over the finish at Eastbourne. Itinerary: GUIDED TRAIL WALK 100 miles. 8-12 miles and up to 1,950ft of ascent in a day Day 1 Arrival day. Day 2 Starting from Winchester Cathedral, follow the trail to Exton. Day 3 Visit the Iron-Age fort on Old Winchester Hill and then across the Hampshire Downs to Butser Hill. Day 4 Cross into Sussex and on to the village of Cocking. Day 5 Pass the Bignor Roman Villa as we walk to Amberley. Day 6 Enjoy superb views south to the coast as we walk to Steyning. Day 7 Continue over the Downs to Devil’s Dyke and Pyecombe. Day 8 Free day to explore or walk independently. Day 9 Pass the landmarks of Ditchling Beacon and the Clayton windmills to Lewes. Day 10 Along the crest of the Downs to Alfriston. Day 11 A glorious finale along the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters to Beachy Head and Eastbourne. Day 12 Departure day. WHERE WE STAY: |
