St Cuthbert's Way

This scenic route links historic places associated with St Cuthbert, who was renowned for his healing powers as Bishop of Lindisfarne on Holy Island.  The varied trail takes us from the Scottish  Borders to the moors of the Cheviot Hills and finally across the sands to Lindisfarne.

Itinerary:  6 nights - 
 
 62 miles. 11-15 miles with a maximum of 2,250ft of ascent per day.

Day 1: arrival day.
Day 2: cross the Eildon Hills from Melrose Abbey to the River Tweed and Harestanes.
Day 3: along a Roman road through the Scottish Borders to Kirk Yetholm and Morebattle.
Day 4: walk through the Cheviot Hills to Hethpool, crossing the border into England.
Day 5: across the moors towards Wooler, with views of Northumberland’s largest hill-fort.
Day 6: visit St Cuthbert’s Cave, before crossing the causeway or following the Pilgrim’s Path over the sands to Lindisfarne; a fitting end to our holiday.
Day 7: departure day.
