COLOURS OF BRAZIL 2011 

Rio de Janeiro with walks on Sugar Loaf, the Corcovado and Tijuca forest.  Experience the breathtaking Iguazu Falls.  Walk in the gorges and canyons of the Chapada Diamantina National Park.  Witness the African flavours of Salvador.  Pristine beaches and rainforest of Brazil's long coastline.

Guided Walks:  A combination of easy city walks and part-day coastal, gorge and rainforest wlks.  There are harder options such as a walk up Sugar Loaf in Rio and the Lencois to Capao trail, which at 9 miles is the longest walk of the holiday.  

Hotels:  We stay in a selection of 3 and 4-star hotels and charming "pousadas" in central locations.. The Pousada Lagoa do Cassange is a luxurious beach hotel with great character. Included: 13 nights' accommodation in en-suite rooms. Breakfast and Dinner included  from dinner on arrival to breakfast on departure except 2 dinners.  A full program of guided walks, led by a local guide and an HF Holidays Leader.  Internal flights. Sightseeing, entrance fees and travel by coach or minibus.
Itinerary:
 
Day 1 Depart from home
 
Days 2 - 3: Rio de Janeiro  - 2 nights
Arrive in Rio de Janeiro to see the famous sights of the spectacular city, including Sugar Loaf mountain, the Corcovado, the historic district of Santa Theresa, Tijuca, urban rainforest and a stroll down the famous Copacabana Beach.

Day 4 - 5: Iguazu  - 2 nights
Fly to Iguazu where we will see the vapour rising into the sky and hear the continuous roar long before we see the many huge falls, including the powerful Devil's Throat.  We walk through the surrounding jungle on both the Brazilian and Argentinian side of the falls, for close up views of the various powerful cascades spread across a huge area.

Days 6 - 7  Lencois - 2 nights
Fly to Salvador and travel into the lush interior to Lencois.  Here we enjoy walking in the stunning Chapada Diamantina, a region of huge flat-topped mountains, lush rainforest, crystal clear streams, waterfalls and pools ideal for bathing.

Day 8 - 9:  Capao  - 2 nights
Enjoy a full day walk amid stunning landscapes to Capao with day long views of the Morrao  rock formation.  The following day we visit Cachoeira da Fumaca, Brazil's highest waterfall set in an impressive canyon. 

Days 10 - 11  Salvador  - 2 nights
We head to Salvador on the Bahian coast and enjoy a walking tour of this exotic cit with its Portuguese, African and native Brazilian flavours.  Enjoy an evening of Bahian cuisine and traditional music and dance. 

Days 12- 14:  Marau Peninsula  - 3 nights
Take the ferry and jeep to the Marau Peninsula.  We stay at the pousada Lagoa do Cassange, located on a sweeping bay near several pristine beaches.  Enjoy coastal walks in the Atlantic rainforest, visit tiny fishing villages, take a boat trip to hidden beaches and palm fringed islands and swim in natural pools.

Day 15:
Transfer to Salvador for return flight.
