KILIMANJARO - THE ROOF OF AFRICA TANZANIA 2010

A challenging and massively rewarding trek up one the the world's great mountains and the roof of Africa.  Take the Lemosho route to Kilimanjaro's summit, with plenty of time for acclimatisation, and relax afterwards in the beautiful Serengeti.

Guided Walks: Kilimanjaro is not a technical climb, but the trek is made challenging by the altitude, with the summit at 5,895 m.  Each day's walk on the climb varies between 2 to 5 hours, and an average elevation gain of 585 m per day. HF Holidays' partners have the best success rate of any operator and are vastly experienced.  You will be provided with first-rate backup before and during your trip, and unforgettable memories for afterwards.

Hotels:  On the plains we stay in comfortable safari tented camps and lodges.  On Kilimanjaro we use 3 man tents for use by 2 people with a mess tent and toilet tent at each camp.  You will be very well supported and catered for by our local partner's large and efficient team. Included: 10 nights accommodation in en-suite rooms and twin-bedded tents on the trek. All meals.  Services of a local tour conductor and local guides.  Walks, sightseeing, entrance fees and travel by air-conditioned minibus or coach.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Moshi  - 1 night
Arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and then transfer  to the nearby town of Moshi.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge - 1 night
Relax after the flight with a safari to Lake Manyara on the Great Rift Valley escarpment, known for its tree climbing lions and herds of elephants.  We then continue to the Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge for an evening on the edge of the crater.

Days 3: Moshi - 1 night 
We enjoy a morning game drive in the spectacular open grasslands of the Ngorongoro Crater home to an astonishing variety of game including large herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, elephants and also lions and leopards.  We return to Moshi for time to prepare for tomorrow.

Days 4: Kilimanjaro - 7 nights 
Depart towards mighty Kilimanjaro. Taking  the Lemosho Glades route, we depart from Londorossi Gate and walk through an area of rich vegetation to Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 5 - 6:
Our next two days take us to the Shira crater and the giant moorland zone of the Shira plateau.  As the vegetation thins we see the first direct views of the peak.  On day 5 we walk across the plateau to Shira 2 Camp.

Day 7:
We steadily hike towards Lava Tower, where we acclimatise at the southern flank of Kibo at 14,000ft before dropping down to Baranco Camp, spectacularly located at the foot of Kibo Peak.

Days 8 - 9:
Our first challenge is to breach the Baranco Wall, then we trek through spectacular rugged scenery as we descent into the Karanga Valley, where we rest and acclimatise.  We then climb to Barafu Camp, where we go to bed early before the final ascent.

Day 10: 
Today is the day we ascent to the roof of Africa! We depart well before dawn to reach our ultimate goal, Uhuru Peak.  After sunrise and celebrations on the peak we descent the glacial valley to Mwela Camp.

Days 11:   Moshi - 1 night
Steadily descent the mountain into the rainforest, from where we transfer to our resort in Moshi. Time for a hot shower and a celebration dinner.

Day 12:
Transfer to the airport for our flight home.
