Guided Walking and Sightseeing:

This holiday will introduce you to South Africa's many landscapes and cultures. We journey into the heart of South Africa and some of the best walking in the world. We see the spectacular cliffs, gorges and valleys of the mighty Drakensberg Mountains. In the Zulu homelands we learn about the historic battlefields. We visit pristine Ghost Mountain and wonderful game reserves.

         Supplement for a single room 215 GBP

Guided Walks:  Distances are generally between 1 and 11miles. Ascents range from virtually nil to 2,100 ft with some rough terrain and steep ascents.  On some days there are opportunities to do challenging hikes including the ascent to Cathedral Peak summit.

Hotels:  Montusi Mountain Lodge has views directly to the Amphitheatre and the Cathedral Park Hotel is in the heart of the mountains. Isandiwana Lodge is a lovely boutique lodge looking over the battlefield and Ghost Mountain Inn is a secluded rertreat with excellent facilities. Included: 9 nights' accommodation in twin-bedded en-suite rooms, services of a local South African tour guide, an HF Holidays leader and additional guiding by park rangers.  Walks, sightseeing, entrance fees and travel by air-conditioned luxury coach. All meals are included.
Itinerary:
 
Day 1: Overnight flight to Johannesburg  

Days 2 - 4: Montusi Mountain Lodge (3 nights)  Here we enjoy two days of excellent walking in the Royal Natal National Park including the Tugela Gorge and the famous Amphitheatre.

Day 5 -6:
Travel to the central Drakensberg, an area that includes some of South Africa's highest peaks. Stay at the Cathedral Park Hotel for two nights

Day 7: Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Hermanus
Walk along the coast and in the botanical splendour of the Frenkloof Nature Reserve accompanied by a local guide.

Day 8: Robinson Pass - 1 night
Our route continues through the Overberg as far as the spectacular Robinson Pass.

Day 9: Tsitsikamma - 2 nights
Explore the Garden Route passing a series of lagoons, brilliant white sandy beaches and forests of yellowwood trees. We enjoy a magnificent coastal walk on Robberg Peninsula near Plettenberg Bay before continuing to Tsitsikamma.

Day 10: Tsitsikamma National Park
Follow a trail through indigenous forests to the famous suspension bridge at Storms River Mouth as well as optional coastal walks.

Days 11 & 12: Addo National Park - 2 nights
View a wide variety of wildlife in the enthralling surroundings of the greater Addo National Park. Enjoy an afternoon game drive at a private game reserve, home to the 'Big Five' animals as well as a walk in the Zuurberg Mountains.

Days 13 & 14: Northern Drakensberg - 2 nights
Flight to Johannesburg followed by a drive to the Northern Drakensberg with its magnificent amphitheatre. Memorable walks include the dramatic Tugela Gorge.

Days 15 - 17: Central Drakensberg - 3 nights
Drive to the spectacularly beautiful Central Drakensberg. Memorable walking in these magnificent mountains includes the scenic Contour walk or Rainbow Gorge, depending on the season.

Day 18: Departure Day
Transfer to Durban for the flight home.

Day 19: Arrive UK
