YELLOWSTONE, GLACIER AND THE GRAND TETONS 2010

Guided Walks:  The trails in Glacier, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons offer some of the best walks in North America and our itinerary combines some of the most popular with hikes in lesser known areas. A typical full day walk is about 10 miles, with up to 2,000ft elevation gain.  Easier options will also be available on days with higher amounts of ascent.  Shorter walks are up to 6 miles.    

Hotels: Historic lodges, hotels and inns, each of a distinctive character located in spectacular settings. Included: 14 nights' accommodation in en-suite rooms. Breakfast and Dinner included  from dinner on arrival to lunch on departure except one dinner.  A full program of guided walks, led by a courier/driver, local trained guides and naturalists and an HF Holidays leader.  Sightseeing, entrance fees and travel by coach or minibus.
 
Itinerary:
 
Days 1 - 3:  Kalispell  - 1 night
Arrival in Kalispell and transfer to Lake McDonald Lodge an ideal base for walks in the Marias Pass area of the Glacier National Park.  We travel on the Going-to-the-Sun road to walk the Highline Trail  along the Garden Wall to Granite Peak with excellent opportunities to see marmots, bighorn sheep and diverse wildlife.  We include a free day here with choices to experience river rafting, horse riding or relax at the lodge.
 
Days 4 - 6:  Many Glacier Valley  - 3 nights
We drive a short distance into the Many Glacier Valley for three days of walks amongst breathtaking scenery of glaciers, mountain lakes and waterfalls. Our stay in the area includes  trail walks to Iceberg Lake and a trek to Grinnell Glacier for tremendous Rocky Mountain views.


Days 7 - 10:  Yellowstone  - 4 nights
Drive south to Yellowstone.  We visit the Firehole Valley of Yellowstone National Park containing the largest concentration of geysers in the world. Here we'll take short walks to Fountain Paintpot Flats and Midway geyser and view the famous geothermal display of Old Faithful geyser.  We also explore one of Yellowstone's premier wonders-the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and climb Mt Washburn for terrific views of the park.

Days 11-14: Jackson -  4 nights
Continue south to Jackson for a superb variety of walks in The Grand Tetons.  At lower levels, there are trails into picturesque valleys and gorges with such evocative names as Paintbrush Canyon, Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point and landscapes made famous by the photographer Ansel Adams.  Higher level walks include sections of the Teton Crest Trail and a walk from Cascade Canyon to Lake Solitude, considered by many to be the quintessential Teton experience.  

Day 15:
Transfer to the airport for our departure.  

Day 16:  Arrive UK.
