Explore the rich heritage of the famous Ring of Kerry as you follow the spectacular Atlantic coastline past Iron Age forts, mountain scenery and beautiful beaches.

Tour Highlights : This route follows the main road around the Ring of Kerry with sections on side roads where possible.  You should feel comfortable cycling on roads with traffic. The route includes cycling over a mountain pass.

Fitness level required: Moderate.

Kerry,  Ireland - Independent Cycling  Tour Itinerary

Day 1 : arrival in Killarney.

Day 2 : cycle through the Beaufort Valley and relax over lunch in the isolated valley of Glencar.  In the afternoon cycle beside Caragh Lake and head towards the seaside village of Glenbeigh where you will spend the night (31 miles).

Day 3 : follow the shores of Dingle Bay to the market village where you will spend 2 nights - with the option of a longer route via Valentia Island (28 or 42 miles).

Day 4 : enjoy a free day relaxing in Waterville, cycling round Skelligs Ring or enjoying a boat trip to Skelligs Rocks.

Day 5 : head through the Coomakista Pass with its magnificent views over Kenmare and the Atlantic Ocean.  Continue cycling along the coast tot he village of Sneem, a place once popular with President Charles de Gaulle (30 miles).

Day 6 : leave the main Ring of Kerry route to explore some of the inland terrain.  Cycle to Molls Gap with stunning vistas of the Lakes of Killarney (en route to Killarney itself for a two-night stay). Further on, stop at Torc Waterfall and Muckross House. (28 miles or 38 miles).

Day 7 : cycle through the dramatic Gap of Dunloe and into the remote Black Valley.  Ride back to Killarney via the Three Lakes - or return by boat (15 or 35 miles).

Day 8 : departure day.
