The Maltese Islands have been described as a big open-air museum dating back 7000 years. On our leisurely tour we delve into the island's mysterious prehistory. We retrace the footsteps of St Paul who, according to legend, was shipwrecked here. We see where the medieval Knights of St John defended Christendom and we marvel at Malta's heroic struggle during World War II.

But our exploration of Malta is not just about history. Its scenery and architecture provide a spectacular backdrop with striking, honey-coloured stone against the deepest of Mediterranean blues. In March, the island is pleasure for the senses with warm sunshine and the scent of spring flowers. We don't rush. There is time to sip wine in a cafe, to stroll the Promenade along the sea and to browse in museums. With its English heritage, Malta offers theatre, open-air concert performances and art exhibits.

It is worth the trip just to enjoy our accommodation at the 5-star Hotel Phoenicia located at the edge of Valetta and surrounded by beautiful gardens.

The tour is escorted plus we use local, English-speaking guides who can make history come alive.
