TOBAGO - CROWN POINT
Location: Crown Point Apartments
are located just a few minutes from the airport directly on a lovely white
sand beach at Store Bay. The small hotel is set in spacious, shady, tropical
gardens with tiny sugar-birds fluttering about in the foliage. There is a large fresh-water pool and swimming at
the beach is superb. Directly in front of the hotel one can snorkel (if the sea is calm) or
one can just observe a myriad of small fish from atop a rocky point in the
gardens. The grounds have lots of shade, flowers and birdlife. The hotel has a mini-market, a very good
open-air restaurant and
an ocean-front bar. It is
within walking distance of other good restaurants. The atmosphere is relaxed and
casual. The main town of Scarborough is about 5 miles away by taxi or local
bus. There is free internet access in the lobby (30 minute time
limit).
Rooms: The apartment units are set in a two story section surrounded
by attractive gardens.
All units face
the ocean and have private balconies. All apartments have a small
kitchenette with refrigerator, twin or
double beds, bathroom with shower and hair-dryer, satellite TV and air conditioning. The ocean views are superb.
Studio units are one room with balcony, bathroom and kitchenette.
Larger units (one bedroom apartment units) have a separate living
room.
Meals: Breakfast is taken in Crown Point's restaurant overlooking the ocean and swimming pool.
Breakfast is anytime from 7 - 10 am. The restaurant is open for lunches. Dinners are
taken as a group at a variety of excellent restaurants all within a short
distance of Crown Point plus we have dinner one night at the hotel
restaurant. The food, especially
the fish, is excellent and it is wonderful to try local dishes like
callaloo soup, curried crab, breadfruit souffle, coconut pie and soursop ice-cream.
All rooms have kitchenettes.
On the night when dinner is not included, meals are available at the hotel
or at near-by restaurants.
 The Beach: The beach at
Crown Point is about 200 yards long and offers superb swimming. For
beachcombers one finds miles of deserted beach at nearby Pigeon Point.
Entertainment: A few evenings a week there is a steel band at Crown
Point. Other hotels within walking distance have entertainment.
Other Hotel Facilities:
Free use of internet (30 minute time limit). Free safety deposit box for valuables. Beach
towels are provided. Beach chairs are available for rent. Satellite TV with
CNN, BBC and Toronto City news channels. Fresh-water showers are
located at the entrance to the beach.
Nearby Facilities:
A bank and ATM machines are located within a few minutes walk. A Mini-Market
stocking bottled water, juices, liquor and basic groceries is adjacent to
hotel. Within a few minutes walk you will find a fruit vendor selling fresh
Trinidad pineapples, oranges, mangos, bananas and papaya.
Things to do and places to visit in Tobago if you stay for a second week:
- Visit Fort George and the Museum. Built in 1770, the fort is Tobago’s
best-preserved historical monument. It is located near Scarborough just
twenty minutes by taxi from the hotel.
- Snorkel at the Bucco Reef where you can
witness an underwater ballet of colorful tropical fish and brilliant
coral. Snorkel boats are available. There is also good snorkeling
near the hotel.
- Golfers have the choice of two excellent courses within a 15 minute
taxi-ride from the hotel.
- Visit a typical Caribbean market on Saturday morning.
