WHERE WE STAY IN SORRENTO -
The four-star Imperi al
Hotel Tramontano is a charming, traditional, seaside hotel located at the edge
of Sorrento directly on the Bay of Naples with a view of Mount
Vesuvius and the sparkling Mediterranean. This elegant hotel has
a long history. Artists and great writers have long been at home
here. The building became a hotel in 1812 and was popular with
English writers and aristocrats on the "Grand
Tour". Milton, Byron, Shelley , Keats and Longfellow
all stayed at the Tramontano. The
recently restored building stands in a centuries-old park where
guests can inhale the fragrance of sweet-smelling
trees and walk down paths of oleander, hydrangea, acacia,
coconut palms, and geraniums. Rooms have period furniture
with high ceilings and gilt-framed mirrors providing
a traditional look. Marble bathrooms are ultra-modern. Rooms offer
personal safes, minibar, satellite TV, hairdryer, bathrobe and
slippers. You can see more of the hotel on their
web-site:

Tramontano staff are warm and
gracious and go out of their way to make their guests' stay
enjoyable. Food here is excellent and there is always
plenty of choice on the menu. Some nights we have dinner
in the hotel in the formal dining room and on other nights we
sample the great restaurants of Sorrento.
