ANCIENT SITES OF TURKEY

   April 12 - April 28, 2010
Oct 17 - Nov 2, 2010

Turkey, with its Mediterranean sunshine, exotic culture and fascinating history, beckons us. One finds landscapes layered with remains of civilization after civilization dating back to 23,000 BC. In the 1st century AD St Paul trod the paths across Anatolia to reach Ephesus and today in Cappadocia we see early churches hidden in caves and decorated with amazingly vivid frescoes. We explore Byzantine castles, Greek and Roman theatres. In Istanbul we see the palaces of sultans and marvel at the wealth of Ottoman rulers. Along the Lycian coast we visit small villages that have been in existence for three thousand years. But Turkey is not just about history. The scenery is spectacular, the people friendly, the bazaars colourful and the food is marvellous.

Tour Highlights:

  • Tour the Topkapi Palace, former home of the sultans in Istanbul.

  • Marvel at 1st century Christian churches hollowed out of rocks.

  • Discover layer upon layer of ancient civilisations along the scenic Turquoise Coast

  • Enjoy wonderful Turkish cuisine

  • Visit Ephesus with an expert guide.
